9 cool cars released the year I was born
The BMW Z8 was a very legendary car from BMW. The Z8 was a homage to the BMW 507 from the 50s. As well as that, you may recognise this car from a small film franchise called 'James Bond'. The Z8 was driven by Bond in 'The World is not enough' however, unfortunately gets cut in half towards the end. The Z8 featured a 4.9L V8 which produced around 390 bhp and costed a whopping $128k when new.
Chrysler PT Cruiser
While this isn't perhaps the best car to be released in the year 2000, it happened. This car has received a lot of abuse for being incredibly ugly, I couldn't agree more im afraid. It doesn't particularly do the brand justice. Not very exciting spec either. You could either get a 2 door convertible or 5 door hatchback which came with 1.6L petrol engine or 2.2L Diesel (a few other options as well).
Once again, not a stunner but the prize for the car with the coolest name in the year 2000 goes to Dacia... This was the first car the released by the manufacturer after being taken over by Renault. This gave it an authentic 1.4L Renault engine and 5 speed manual gearbox (to supposedly make it more reliable?!). Surprisingly, the SupeRNova came in 5 different trim levels. The "Comfort", "Rapsodie", "Europa", the highest level being the "Clima" and a special edition! Called the "Campus".
That's more like it! This is the Lotec Sirius which is a German made car. There is very little information on this car, but what I do know is that it has a 'Hypercar' status along with its monstrous twin turbo V12 producing 1200 bhp. It gets better! Lotec claimed a top speed of 248 mph in only 7.8 seconds. Only 5 were ever produced at around £380,000.
The Lotus Exige was first introduced in 2000 with a 1.8L Rover in-line four engine producing 177 bhp (this just screams reliability). But it did weigh just under 1,000kg which meant it was proper quick. It had a top speed of 136 mph and achieved 0-60 in 4.7 seconds. Despite being a very small company, Lotus managed to shift 604 of these in the 2 years they were produced.
Morgan Aero 8
Morgan, for those of you who don't know is a British sports car brand based in Worcestershire. The Aero 8 sported a 4.4L BMW supplied V8. This was a very significant car because it was the first car the company had produced since 1964 as well as being the first Morgan with an aluminum chassis. Every single Morgan was built at their factory in Britain and they were able to make about 14 cars a week, which isn't bad going for a few blokes in flat caps with a spanner in one hand and a cup of tea in the other!
Also known as the Vauxhall VX220 in England, this was a very cool car. Vauxhall have been known for making the world's first sports car back in 1914 called the 'Prince Henry'. The Speedster/VX220 is very unlikely to be a homage to this car but it is very cool to think nonetheless. It had a 2.2L engine borrowed from the Astra. The aluminium chassis tub only weighed 72 kg resulting in the entire car weighing 875 kg which was 100 kg lighter than the Toyota MR2.
Despite being one of the worst vehicles ever made. This car did feature in one of my favourite TV shows ever, Breaking Bad. This is what Walter White drove around in famously for most of the show. I kinda grew to love it over that time. It is a very quirky car but has some awesome little features. Some of these include a tent option, inflatable bed, built in cooler in the centre console, and endless storage spaces.
This came with a 4.2L V8 from Audi producing just short of 400 bhp. This car is extremely aviation themed. The wheels look like propellers, all the vents look like they are off of a spitfire and the interior features many dials and switches you would expect to see in an aircraft. The Spyker C8 isn't a very well known car, however it did feature in a 2010 Reese's puffs commercial which is probably not Spyker's proudest moment for their mouth dropping aviation inspired machine.
