Porsche 911 GT2 RS with Manthey Performance Kit sets new Nürburgring lap record
It did it in a whopping 6:43.3 min
The Porsche 911 GT2 RS fitted with a Manthey Performance kit has just set a new Nürburgring lap record of 6:43.3 min.
The Nürburgring Nordschleife is a 12.9 miles (20.8 km) high-speed race track which all car makers attempt to beat. The one which came out on top however, is this tuned GT2 RS which puts out a staggering 700hp.
This new Performance Kit was developed as part of a collaboration between Porsche engineers in Weissach and the Manthey Nordschleife specialists in Meuspath. The previous record for production vehicles was beaten by 4.747 seconds. The plan was to beat the existing 6:48.047 road car record. Kern achieved this with flying colours at the wheel of the 911 GT2 RS, beating the previous time by 4.747 secs on road-legal Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 R tyres, at an average speed of 115.5 mph (185.87 km/h).
The Manthey kit gives the GT2 RS a lot more downforce as well as more weight saving and a touch more power. It's amazing to watch these sorts of things, especially when Porsche is so damn consistent.
