LAUNCESTON, Tasmania, Australia: The Virgin Australia Supercars championship heads across Bass Straight to Tasmania this weekend as Nissan Motorsport prepares for battle at the unique Symmons Plains circuit near Launceston.

Originally opened in 1960, Symmons Plains is one of the longest serving circuits of the combined history of the Australian Touring Car Championship and the Supercar Championship Series.

The circuit basically features three corners with two long straights split by a tight banked hairpin.

“I always look forward to heading over to Tassie," Todd Kelly said.

"It’s always an enjoyable round as it's quite a contrast to the races we have done so far this year - being Clipsal and the AGP. Tasmania (and especially Launceston) is one of those nice quiet little places that I would go and spend a few days at with the family, it has a great feel about it. "And even though the circuit is fairly small, with probably the least amount of corners of any track that we race on, they are some of the best corners in the country.

"It’s one of those tracks that you can really get in a rhythm on and the laps in the race can seem to just disappear. The season so far has had a decent shakeup with the new tyres, so I can’t wait to see how the weekend plays out for us.”

Todd Kelly and teammates Rick Kelly, Michael Caruso and Simona de Silvestro will be on track for the first practice from Friday before contesting a 50-lap battle on Saturday and an 84-lap race on Sunday.

Nissan last week confirmed its line-up for the end-of-season endurance races with Dean Fiore joining Michael Caruso, David Wall joining Rick Kelly, Jack le Brocq joining Todd Kelly and David Russell teaming with Simona de Silvestro.
