A 1963 Cheetah race car at auction
This is the last unreturned original model of this car, which set a notable record in 1964.
One of the first known race Cheetahs will be sold unreservedly in a unique auction organized by Guernsey House in New York on May 10th.
An original 1963 Cheetah, created to compete against the Ford GT40 or other Shelby Cobra, will be auctioned by Guernsey House in New York on May 10.
The result of the collaboration between General Motors and Bill Thomas, this Cheetah was owned by the latter until 1965, and the fourth on only 23 units built. It is also the only known unrestored copy, the only surviving entirely original model.
The Cheetah set a new record at Daytona in 1964, surpassing the 346 km / h, a unique feat with a genre vehicle at that time. Nevertheless, very few of the 23 survived the new millennium.
Built in 1963, this Cheetah contains evidence that this is the second copy of the production, after two prototypes and a test vehicle. It was also the car chosen to demonstrate the potential of Cheetah when it ran the same year at Daytona.
