A 300bhp lightweight Sport version of the Alpine A110 is in the works

The A110 Sport is reported to be getting an enhanced chassis setup along with added lightness

With the digital ink barely dry on the Alpine A110 reviews news has reached us that a hardcore ‘Sport’ model is in development packing more power, less weight and an array of handling improvements.

According to Auto Express, the French carmaker is preparing a Sport model of its svelte coupe packing a retuned version of the mid-mounted 1.8-litre turbo engine producing around 300bhp. The sport model will also lose a substantial 50kg of weight which is a significant number as the standard car weighs in at just 1103kg. All of this weight loss will be achieved by trimming heft from the interior and other sections of the car.

To take advantage of an increased power to weight ratio, the Alpine Sport will feature an enhanced chassis setup that will be 15 to 20 percent stiffer than the standard car. It will also get a recalibrated version of the standard cars 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, up-rated steering, stability control and a retuned exhaust system.

The one thing that will remain unchanged though is the braking system which Alpine consider more than capable of dealing with the increase in power. In standard form, the Alpine A110 completes the 0-62mph dash in just 4.5 seconds. Given for the wealth of changes, expect this time to hit around the 4.0-second mark.

There is no word on price or when this Sport model will hit the roads. But expect it to exceed the £50,000 price tag of the standard car by some margin when it does finally arrive in late 2018 or early 2019.

  • The Porsche may have better performances, but I'd choose the Alpine over the Porsche simply because it is different, and it's new, and it's retro inheritance. Porsche you see everwhere these days, driven by rappers and gangsters and wannabee's. An Alpine is more suited for the conneiseur.

  • I think this lightweight will give the upcoming Cayman GT4 a good fight. The standard model is good already so I would be surprised if the lightweight model is anything less than epic. :)

  • I knew that since the departure. They are going to make 99 versions of the A110 like Porsche made for her 911. Not bad but harmful for the first buyers
