A Brand New Rivalry: But will it ever be acted out?
Has McLaren unintentionally challenged Ferrari?
So whats going on?
McLaren has just released the Elva as I'm sure you've all seen. It's based off the old McLaren M1 line and it stands in as the vintage remake. I would like to draw your attention to something. This is something I believe the company and my fellow Drivetribers have either forgotten or intentionally glossed over. This fact being McLaren has totally, utterly, and completely copied and therefore challenged Ferrari.
What you all forgot.....
Remember me? Yes, it is the vintage remake by ferrari, the utterly gorgeous Monza SP1 and SP2. This machine was realesed almost a year ago, which is totally an excuse to completely forget it. It's based on the old stripped out Ferrari speeders from the 50's and 60's (cough cough, sound farmiliar?). It sits at 810 bhp (cough) has a sub 3 second 0-60 (cough cough). However, they seem to have forgotten the windsheild (there's something in my throat I swear). It also has a top speed around 190 which is quite expected based on the fact it uses a variant of the 812 superfast's 6.5 litre NA V12 . The Monza is very limited. The production numbers rack up at just 500 units and just buying requires very sturdy Ferrari credentials and ownership of many previous models.
The Elva has similar horespower at 804, similar lineage and it's a vintage remake. It also has similar 0-60s and no windshield. What more do you need!
See the resemblance?
If this doesn't make it obvious, I don't know how to convince you either. Unintentionally or intentionally, McLaren has instigated a rivalry. Will it ever be acted upon? Will we ever know which is faster on the track? Will they ever go head to head? If so, let me just say I can't wait.
