A Camera Can Now Fine You for Having a Loud Car
Speed cameras, we know them and we hate them right? However, this article isn't about speed cameras but it's about a new phenomenon called 'noise cameras'. These are going to be trialled in the UK to combat noise pollution.
The sound sensors will be attached to number plate recognizing cameras. The idea is to target owners of cars who's exhausts are louder than the legal limit and owners who rev their engines over the legal limit which is 74 decibels in the UK. The Department of Transport said that noise pollution through cars revving makes the lives of commuters in Britain, "absolute misery".
The main reason for this massive change is that the transport secretary has said that noise pollution is a huge factor in causing heart attacks, high blood pressure, diabetes and general stress.
To start with, the noise sensors will be trialed over the next seven months on number plate recognizing cameras and if the trial is successful then these new sensors will be attached to all 8,700 cameras across the UK.
This new type of camera will also affect motorcycle riders with loud exhausts as these apparently "provide unwanted attention to riders and don't promote the benefits of a motorcycle". I just found the whole concept very amusing but it's obviously going to be anything but for teens and their tuned Civics.
