Welcome to my first post ever on this site. I am thinking of starting out in my automotive journalism career with a slightly crazy idea. Allow me to explain: I play a lot of video games, and that includes games with a lot of driving. Some of these games, like the Grand Theft Auto series, the Just Cause series, the Burnout series, etc. do not have any licensed cars in the game, so the developers just make up their own. This has gotten interesting over the years, as it now includes entire fake car brands as well as models. Another thing that developed in the industry over the years is better physics engines. Which leads to the crazy idea: What if I reviewed these made-up video game cars like actual automotive journalists review real ones?
Basically, the plan would work like this: I will pick up a game like Just Cause 3 or 4, Mafia 3, Burnout Paradise (games I already have) or GTA V (still have to get), pick out various cars to drive in the game to get a general feel for them, and then try and do a full-fledged review of the car. These are only a few examples of the games I have in mind, but I will definitely be open to picking up more games to review more unlicensed cars. I plan on doing these reviews in the style of journalists like Doug Demuro, Matt Farah of The Smoking Tire, and Mr. Regular of Regular car Reviews, so watch some of their videos to get an idea of what I have planned. I believe over time, I will develop my own style that differs slightly from the above, but they are my main inspirations for this idea. As much as I would love to do the showiness of Clarkson, Hammond, and May, I want the review to be as honest as I possibly can make it. I realize I won't be able to do an in-depth review of everything in the unlicensed cars, like interior, comfort, and amenities, but I will do my best to cover those aspects.
I will most likely do the reviews in writing on this site, because I do not have access to filming equipment and don't feel like buying any. I will also try to post regularly, but life most certainly will get in the way sometimes. The reason I am doing this is because I would like to start testing the waters of automotive journalism to see if it is something I can truly pursue, and I don't think many people do earnest reviews of unlicensed cars in video games. I will definitely be using the games' wiki sites for reference, so bear with me on that one. Let me know in the comments if you'd be interested in my crazy idea.
