A farewell to GranTurismo 6

As GT6 servers will get axed in March I want to reflect on what has been a truly underrated game.

A PS3 title racing community is gonna be axed in the next coming months and we are gonna have to bid a farewell to it. GT6 is my opinion an underrated game. No one talked about it, it was either GT5 or sport that started conversations or be their favorite game. I found this game to be one of the mot enjoyable racing games I've played on PS3, as Project Cars 2 is my favorite all time. So let's tell my story of how GT6 impacted my life. I received it as a hand me down early last year. that night i played the hell out of it trying to get a Subaru WRX STi as my first car, to this day it sits in my garage. The game was a total grind at the start, earning pennies for my efforts. slowly i worked my way up the latter of the most boring racing career mode. just 3-5 laps against 10 others. It kinda got repetitive after a while. Let's get this out of the way the career mode sucked. it was bad no other word for it. only reason I played it was for income. Then i downloaded the updates to the game which took an entire day (remember this was a hand me down so i was on version 1.0 for awhile) Then tried the seasonal events which made me a lot of money. I then had lots of incredible cars from the R18 TDi Ultra to the infamous Tomahawk X and Redbull X2011. The insane speeds and lap times where unhuman. It was great fun. Then i went online and met great people. So many so I wasted an entire summer break and lost sleep playing the game. This game left an everlasting mark on me, I had lots of fun playing this game with completely random people.

The physics of GT6 were great as well, it felt natural on the pad. The game was easily pick up and play for me and I found myself spending a lot more time then I should have on this game. I learned many things, how to make a drift setup, corner judgement, and drag tuning. I had lots of fun driving LMP1s and Vision GT cars. Also I met many great users how helped me and had a good time with. The game had an incredible community. Then rumblings of the servers being shut down like GT5 and below kept coming up in conversations, i doubted this seeing GT sport was on an entirely different console. then it happened, the news came out, GT6 to be axed by march. I was indifferent as I just received Project Cars 2 and has having a lot of fun with it. That being said, It's sad to see such a great game lose it's community, but money talks and that's just how games are shaped in this modern market.

  • One of the best features of this game is the Goodwood FOS hillclimb. That needs to be in the next GT game.
