Ford's latest electric SUV will serve as the pace car for the NASCAR Geico 500 at Talladega Superspeedway on Sunday, April 25.

This event won't be the first to have an electrified Ford as a pace car, as a Ford Focus Electric led the pack at Richmond in 2012.

“We have always tried to use our presence in NASCAR to show off our dynamic and innovative vehicle lineup, and that continues this weekend with our all-electric Mustang Mach-E,” said Jeannee Kirkaldy, Ford Performance motorsports manager. “We feel this car not only stays true to Mustang’s great heritage but carries on its legacy in a modern way that we think fans and our loyal enthusiasts will embrace.”

  • They are getting the fans ready for the SUV-bodied "cup" cars coming out in the next few seasons. I can't see GM continuing to make the Camaro much longer with sales in the duldrums. It looks like Ford already thinks this soccer mom mobile is a Mustang. So, SUV cup cars will have to be a few years away. Sad...
