A fresh image of the new 480bhp TVR has been released

There's plenty of Ginetta racing car in its front profile

There's been a somewhat anxious build-up to the rebirth of the TVR name, and with the public release of the company's new car commencing on Friday morning, we've been given the most revealing picture yet of the lightweight sportscar. To be unveiled fully at the Goodwood Revival, the new British sportscar is a two seater coupe that'll be on sale in just 18 months time.

The first TVR to roll out of a factory since the company's demise in 2006, the car has been designed by the automotive engineering wizard that is Gordon Murray. This will mean there will be a definite emphasis on aerodynamics, with a venture down the road of ground effects. This downforce will be the foundation of a TVR Le Mans programme, with Les Edgar (TVR Chairman) idolising the endurance race as a platform for the dynamics of the car.

This recent image shows the car as being a very compact, relatively simple design that is akin to a Ginetta racer along with TVR classics of old. The footprint of the car also seems functionally small, potentially paving the way for an agile, twitchy little sportscar.

That package will be powered by a Cosworth-tuned variant of the Ford Coyote V8 from the 5.0-litre Mustang, developing 480bhp. Although that power output is somewhat lagging behind the likes of the McLaren 570S, where the recipe pulls through is its kerb weight - something around 1200kg thanks to a carbon fibre body.

What will make the TVR a standout proposition for old school petrolheads is the presence of a six-speed Tremec manual transmission which - with a swift shift action - should get the car to 100mph in just over six seconds.

500 'launch edition' cars will be ready and shipped to a consortium of customers in 2019, all of whom appear to believe in the new company's mindset towards this new car: a no frills, quick, British, driver-focused, stripped-out, front-engined V8 GT. DriveTribe will be at Goodwood this weekend to study the car in full, so stay tuned for further updates!
