At the weekend I had the opportunity to go for a ride out with Aaron. A friend and also proud owner of a Skyteam Ace. This wonderful motorcycle is a Chinese replica of a 60's Honda RC110 with a clone Honda CG 125cc 4 stroke engine as it's power plant. These bikes can also be purchased with a 50cc 4 stroke power plant and there is a whole forum dedicated to modifying both engines for maximum...'efficiency'... including a whole bunch of modified parts and trick bits too! (As a side note, a Honda 250cc can also be transplanted into the frame, but in my humble opinion it then becomes more of a death trap than a fun machine)
From my point of view this bike is a fantastic starting point for those young men and women on a provisional 'L' Plate license that wish to get into the classic motorcycle scene, without having the reliability issues and the huge initial expense right off the cuff. These little numbers go for around the 2500 - 3000 mark new, dependent on specifications and offers alot of bike for the money. They are also a brilliant blank canvas to make into a unique machine of your own desire! Aaron has clip on bars, straight through exhaust and bar end mirrors (In case you may fancy yourself the same!)
I was a little skeptical at first as the Chinese are not known all that well in the current EU Motorcycle industry, however I was pleasantly surprised and I can honestly say I had alot of fun! It feels insanely fast at anything above 30 and coupled with a straight through exhaust makes a raucous noise too. My only complaint, being 6ft 5" this little machine is definitely that... LITTLE, I was very cramped and struggled to change gears, however with a bike like this that draws so much attention where ever it goes... who cares?!
So, after that brief rundown on the machine itself, I hereby present to you a little photo gallery that I shot with Aaron and his bike looking very cool!
