Believe it or not, the Pagani Huayra is more than a decade old already. I know you're surprised, I know I'm surprised! It was back in March 2011 at the one and only Geneva Motor Show, the world has laid eyes on the second Pagani since the Zonda/C12, and what a car that was, and still is today! So, as current trends dictate, Pagani must tinker the 11 year old Huayra in some shape or form to send it off, as the replacement is due sometime later this year. And like many other exotic brands, having a track-focused variant it is, with more power, crazier aero, and becoming a better sports car in every way imaginable compared to the standard Huayra, finally came the BC Roadster as the last-in-line.
Mechanically it is unfortunately both less interesting and paper-potent than its close rival, the Bugatti Veyron, with its unique 1,000hp W16 motor, where the Huayra BC uses just an AMG-sourced twin-turbo V12 with 750hp to the rear wheels (only a 20hp increase above the standard) and with a tremendously torque-rich output of 1,000Nm from just 2500rpm. However, with its front canards and a sizeable rear wing and many other extra aero gubbins the BC brings, undoubtedly the Pagani will be faster than the 'Bug wherever they meet, given as long as it isn't a straight line; or more realistically, a marble floored garage of the typical customer base Pagani has.
Now, to the model which is what most of you are here for. LCD Models may be traditionally known for their 1/18 and 1/43 models and some dealer-edition models, but looking at this diecast, they have quickly and effortlessly proven themselves worthy to become one of the best brands in the oversaturated 1/64 market, even partnering with veterans like Aoshima for their latest release of the Lexus LX570. QC wasn't an issue for me this time too, as the model has arrived in perfect condition sans all the minor blemishes.
Regardless of whether LCD is a newcomer to this scale or not, placed on my desk and viewing from afar, this Pagani Huayra BC Roadster really can be mistaken for the real deal, that's how well done this model is. This is presented in launch-spec, the duotone silver/exposed carbon fibre with the red/white stripe going along the length of the car, which are all really distinctively separated, and the orange interior. Contrary to many small scale models, this doesn't have too thick of a paint coat, easily noticed by the panel gaps which are well defined. And impressively, the carbon fibre pattern is scaled down perfectly to look appropriate on the car, which some brands *ahem Tomytec* can learn valuable lessons from.
Other features of this diecast include a visible engine through the little engine display window, tricolour flags on both the rear view mirrors, a carbon fibre opening hard top, and most surprisingly, a fully detailed interior with scaled carbon fibre prints throughout, a coloured (though illegible) centre screen and BC branding on the headrests. Basically 90% of the attention to details as the real deal is present here but downsized so it fits in the palm of your hand, because after all this is still a small 1/64 car.
As with everything, nothing's perfect, and in this case, I found the front canards to be protruding out quite a lot, but at least they come in the same carbon fibre print finished with the red and white stripes. Even though I don't mind the next point, I know a lot of collectors like their diecasts to be able to roll, which this is unable to, so its good to point this out too.
This, as you've seen from the photos, is really the most meticulously crafted model in my 1/64 collection so far, and by the standards this has set, it very well may remain as my gold standard for a long, long time, especially at this mid-premium price range of ~£20.
If I were given a word to describe this model - impeccable. If I were given two words to describe this model - bloody impeccable; you get the point. If possible, get it, its really that good.
Is this diecast to die for?
Fun fact: BC stands for Benny Ciaola, a close friend of Mr Pagani himself and the first customer of the brand.
