A Season In Review II: Carlos Sainz
A first full season at Renault turns out to be his only one
After an impressive 2017, all eyes turned to Carlos Sainz in 2018 to see how he would fair at Renault. The few races he participated in at the back end of last season were encouraging but this was a season that left a little to be desired.
That's not to say that the year was an embarrassment, far from it, but this was an opportunity to prove himself against a respected, experienced driver in Nico Hulkenberg and on too many occasions he came up a little short. A slightly better record against his teammate and that Red Bull vacancy might well have been waiting for him in 2019.
There were some things that Sainz can take pride from. 13 races in the points is the best of those finishing outside the top 6 and P5 in Azerbaijan was a great result. All in all though, I view this season as a slight setback for Sainz
