Different year, same story. Vettel's quest for a 5th world championship continues on after he was unable to keep up with Hamilton in the second half of the season. Just as in 2017, Vettel got out of the blocks quickly with multiple early wins and it appeared as if he was getting ready to mount a challenge that would last the entire season.
Then the season fell to bits for Vettel. Last year's defining moment was the spin in Singapore, this time it was crashing out at his home Grand Prix whilst in the lead. The championship was far from done at that point but the loss of confidence led to further errors. Contact with Hamilton at Monza and Verstappen at Suzuka derailed his progress.
It needs to be said that Ferrari deserve a fair portion of the blame too as they made multiple strategy blunders. Vettel will be hoping that it's third time lucky in 2019 and that he and the team can get it together and take it to Mercedes until the bitter end
