A visit to DTHQ

When I read @Jonathan's invitation to all Tribe leaders drop into DT if they were in the area. I thought 'why not'. So a few clicks on the internet, and yesterday I jumped on a plane for the short flight from Prague to London. Having undertaken a labour of love in the radio drivetribe 'play'(s) I thought it a good idea to go and meet them. Get some feed back and if possible some tips, ideas and help. If you have the chance to visit and want to do please let them know before hand by DM to @mahmood-drivetribe on slack (for now).

I was early, and in need!! As I had drained my phone on the journey and needed it to find the hotel I had booked. SO I went in, and the very nice lady in reception allowed me to charge my phone. Ben (who I thought was Todd, no idea why) picked me up and took me into the offices. We sat down in the 'crash room' And chatted on a range of topics. He came through the ranks as an original Drivetriber to working at drivetribe. I got in insight to his work and working in DT. Also helpful feedback on the radio play currently being released and useful suggestion for the future. A really nice down to earth bloke. And he was very gracious despite me getting his name completely wrong! Ben (sometimes know as Todd) also gave me a tour of the offices and showed me where the different teams operate from. Thank Ben.

Then Mahmood arrived and two other gentlemen (you can see I am great with names) and more of the same conversations followed and a spot of lunch. This young men were very kind and let me ramble on and on. This was great. Having lived abroad for so long it is a pleasure to be able to speak English in England. I don't the the chance so often. And have had to learn to speak internationally English in my daily life. You were great guys and I thank you. Mahmood a wonderful host. Then took me on a round of individual introductions. It is one thing to say come and meet. It is another to make it a comfortable interesting way. Mahmood is a star in my book and to everyone I met. It was great to meet you and thank you all so much for taking the time and for the interest. Not least Jonathan who is the boss and had the ask May anything, thing to prepare for. We met and had a great discussion. As he has experience in sound technology, he was a great source of ideas, on how to improve the production quality for the plays. I know he was busy and had hits from all sides. But I never once felt in the way. Or the need to go aways Top man and thank you.

I stayed (hopefully out of the way in the crash room. To watch the 'Ask May Anything' event. It was spectacular to say the least. In the photo above you can see where we followed the event on FB feed and the incoming questions to Mr. May. When the explosion of people post questions happened everyone was....excited and surprised by the rush of people joining the thread and posting questions. If you did follow it was a kind of madness. I am sure modified versions will follow. It was very entertaining to watch, and a well do to James May for copping in a quite flood of people on line.

I took my leave. Form this great group of people. Found my hotel had dinner and went to a pub drank beer and watch football. And still the day was not finished, as tribe leader who works nearby to were was staying joined me in the pub. Wonderful to meet you Martina. What a great day. If you do get the chance to visit. I can only advise you do so. A loverly bunch of people work on 'our' platform.

  • That sounds like a great experience. I would like to buy Jonathan a beer one day. Slight problem though; I can't buy myself a beer yet.
