Said to be one of America’s more lavish automotive events, the Audrain Newport Concours and Motor Week recently took place in Newport, Rhode Island. Present were some of the most expensive vehicles from the car industry’s most famous names, such as the Ferrari 250 GTO and Jaguar D-Type but it was a 1953 Abarth 1100 SS Ghia Coupe which was named best in the show.

Powered by a 1.1-litre straight-four engine, it has a rather underwhelming 65 horsepower. The example which was present at the event is finished in dove gray paint and has a rather beautiful blue interior.

Speaking on the event, Audrain CEO Donald Osborne said: β€œI am proud to say we exceeded even our own expectations for this year's event and are thrilled with the outcome.

It is all about bringing car people together to share their stories and create new memories that will last a lifetime. We are delighted that we could share the island we love with everyone and continue to establish our place in the global concours world."

  • Other cars in the show included the two in my profile picture: Michael Schumacher's 1998 Ferrari F1 car, which he drove to victory in the Monaco Grand Prix, as well as Alain Prost's 1989 McLaren, one of the most dominant F1 cars ever

  • 65hp was a lot for an 1100cc engine back in the 50s!
