ABT promote safe tuning campaign with RS4-R police car
ABT Sportsline is a German motorsport and tuning company that was founded by legendary motorcycle and racecar driver, Johann Abt. They specialise with Audi, Volkswagen, SEAT and Skoda vehicles and are well-renowned for converting them into supercar-humiliating weapons. The company is running a campaign in collaboration with a few German government organisations and automotive parts suppliers called "TUNE IT! SAFE!", which promotes vehicle tuning that complies with traffic and safety regulations. Though fitted with a police siren and the appropriate livery, this RS4-R is not an official police car. Instead it will be on display at the Essen Motor Show (Stand C26, Hall 7) to promote ABT's safety campaign.
What are the performance changes?
The standard RS4 Avant produces a strong 450hp and 600Nm (443lb-ft) of torque from a 2.9L twin-turbocharged V6, enabling the family hauler to hit 62mph in just 4.1 seconds. This RS4-R however boasts 530hp and 690Nm (509lb-ft) thanks to some ECU magic, an additional water cooler and an air intake. Of course, ABT have also installed their own exhaust system with 102mm carbon tips to provide a deep growl like no other patrol vehicle. In the end, 0-62mph is achieved in just 3.8 seconds and cornering is said to be better than the standard car thanks to an anti-roll bar and ABT's "sport stabilisers".
What are the exterior and interior changes?
The RS4 is already a stunning vehicle with an aggressive stance, meaning the cosmetic changes performed by ABT were relatively subtle. In fact the only major changes are the gloss black 21-inch rims, each of which are neatly wrapped in a Hankook tyre. Smaller changes include swapping the factory grille surround and front lip for one made from carbon-fibre and adding side skirts, front canards and a lower lip of the same material. Although, the award for the coolest change goes to the vents on the front fenders. The cabin has been revised too, featuring new leather-Alcantara seats that bear both the ABT and RS4-R name. There is subtle ABT badging placed around the interior, including on the dashboard trim and the ignition switch.
Is this the coolest police wagon of the all time?

Want to start getting under the hood of your own car?
DIY tuning isn't necessarily straightforward or safe, but you can start learning more about your car with an OBD reader, which simply plugs into your car's OBD port. You can then diagnose fault codes, clear warning lights and often a whole lot more. They're not expensive – this one is only £13 and you it just hooks up to an app on your phone. Give it a try!
