According to the Australian Institute of Health and Welfare, skin cancer cost the health system over $400 million in 2008-9 ($367.37m non-melanoma and $49.5m melanoma-the highest cost to the system of all cancers.

The estimated total treatment cost for non-melanoma skin cancer (NMSC) during 2000-01 was $264 million. In 2010 it was calculated that the total cost of NMSC (diagnosis, treatment and pathology) was $511.0 million. In 2015 NMSC treatment has been estimated to increase to $705 million
