ACNA Does NYC in 2017, Formula E & Waterfest
ACNA National convention Samples Electric Racing & Biggest Audi Tuning Show in USA
Now in its 33rd year, the annual Audi Club North America National event will see Audi brand enthusiasts converge on the New York City region on one very significant weekend for car enthusiasts. Highlights of the event will include attendance of the first-ever Formula E race to be held in Brooklyn, followed by participation in America’s largest Audi tuning gathering Waterfest 23.
This multi-day convergence will stage out of Tarrytown New York, nestled along the banks of the Hudson River at the foot of the Tappan Zee Bridge. This historic town is known for its majestic pre-war manors owned by the likes of Jay Gould and author Washington Irving, the latter having a hand in Tarrytown’s other well-known name of Sleepy Hollow.
The first few days of the event will focus on touring great cultural destinations New York has to offer, with the usual gatherings, car displays and the always popular Pirelli rally to a soon-to-be-confirmed winery and distillery in upstate New York.
By the time the weekend arrives, you’ll need to kick it up another gear because the schedule gets even more intense. An immersion in a new style of racing, Audi tuning and car culture are all part of the docket.
Audi, Formula E and the ACNA
Ingolstadt made big headlines this year when it announced it would be leaving its long-dominant Le Mans and WEC programs and switching instead to a full-fledged effort in Formula E. Now in its third season, the all-electric open wheel series runs silent enough to hold races in packed urban areas such as New York city. With the Statue of Liberty and lower Manhattan as a backdrop, Formula E moves this year to the Brooklyn Ferry Terminal located on the water in the hip Red Hook neighborhood.
Audi Sport’s Abt Sportsline Formula E team has always been a strong contender in the fledgling series, but its return this year with stepped up factory backing from Audi Sport suggests it and drivers Lucas Di Grassi and Daniel Abt will bring the fight for the championship even harder.
Given the lack of space in Brooklyn plus the abundance of traffic and tolls, Audi Club members will have the option to cruise to the circuit on a chartered bus. On site, attendees will get to take in the experience of Formula E and even get some behind-the-scenes access to the Abt Sportsline team.
After the race, the bus will return to Tarrytown, though plans are being examined for a post-race gathering in Manhattan where race attendees or other guests who opted to spend the day exploring the city can catch up and enjoy themselves. The buses will return guests to Tarrytown on schedule, or we’ll make sure you’ve got instructions on how to catch a train back to Tarrytown should you choose to stay late in order to enjoy Manhattan’s nightlife.
Waterfest, the Largest Audi Tuning Show in North America
Waterfest may not have created the classic tuning show genre, but the event has certainly perfected the model. Now in its 23rd year running, the show has become the largest Audi and VW tuning event in North America. It’s managed this through the consistent application of elements such as a judged show field, vendor area, autocross, drag racing, dyno and burnout competitions.
Set in Englishtown New Jersey at the expansive Raceway Park complex, this show is the ultimate for anyone serious about modification and tuning of Audi and Volkswagen automobiles. Enter your car into the show, the racing or one of the competitions… or just park it and walk the largest gathering of Audi tuners and vendors you’ll find in one place.
Near the center of the vast vendor area will be the Audi Club North America display. A great place to grab a cool drink or meet up with other Audi enthusiasts in order to set out and take in row after row of intensely loved and heavily modified automobiles.
All That and More
If there’s one thing that’s clear about New York, it’s the seemingly unending list of destinations, attractions and drives that are there to be enjoyed by visitors. Whether driving there in your favorite Audi or flying in and renting a new A4 at Newark from Silvercar, we understand the sheer magnitude of options available to Audi drivers who choose to attend.
In addition to the events we’ve already confirmed, the Audi Club North America team and local tri-state area Audi Club chapters are also busy working on additional events to be confirmed at a later time, or identifying destinations and trips you may want to take on your own.
Given everything there is to see and do, we’re confident that this will be one of the most memorable national gatherings to date. Stay tuned for regular highlights and announcements for even more to see and do when you join us in New York. See you then!
