The Tesla Model S P100D recently took on both a Lamborghini Aventador SV and a McLaren 720S in a quarter mile drag race by Drag Times. The guys have now taken the P100D against an unlikely rival, an Acura NSX.

The NSX hit criticism upon it's release for poor styling, lacking character and not being quick enough for it's hefty £130,000 price tag. The car in the drag race is powered by the 3.5L turbo charged V6 engine, producing 573BHP with a Fabspeed exhaust and two electric motors. The car is all wheel drive and has a 9 speed DCT automatic gearbox fitted.

The P100D needs no introduction. The 588BHP car puts down 920 ft-lbs of torque thanks to it's ludicrous mode and up until now it has proved to be the king of the drag strip.

The guys do 2 races and in the first of which both cars use launch control. The Model S beats the Acura off the line, and although the NSX does start catching it up, the Tesla finishes the 1/4 mile 0.14 seconds ahead of the NSX. In the second race, you could argue that the NSX driver has a better reaction time off the start line, leading to the car beating the Tesla by 0.32 seconds.

  • To properly compare a 2-seater to a 5-seater, you'd better wait for the Tesla Roadster 2 for a better comparison.

  • Ya ya, the Tesla beats everything in a quater mile...great. How about 3/4 of a mile? Or lets see it do three laps on a decently sized circuit without overheating or running out of charge. Dont get me wrong, this is an amazing vehicle, but you dont see it racing on actual circuits for a reason. I'm hoping the upcoming roadster will prove otherwise.

    • Actually even going full ham with the tesla it still has decent range. Admittedly range is still the worst areas of electric cars, but as you said the tesla is an amazing car, these cars will revolutionise cars

  • Tesla lost to a better reaction time by the NSX. Still a win (1) for NSX. It's hard to compete consistently against an electric vehicle that has max torque from 0

    • Exactly why I think it’s pointless to drag an electric since at that point it’s just who can step on the gas earlier/harder

  • Another useless review post from the Pin heads at DriveTribe. Technical bla bla and stop watch diarrhea spewing all over the page but not one person brings what real matters to the table here !!! Whats the functioning ergonomics of the cup holders in either cars ???? Ahhh now your all feeling pretty foolish this was over looked . HA !

  • Why doesn't anyone mention the P100D is a 1 speed transmission? Not shifting saves a lot of time in 1\4 but can not do much else after that.
