Aditya Patel re-signs with OD Racing for 2018 Blancpain GT Series Asia

The Indian driver remains with the team with whom he nearly won the title in 2017.

The seasoned Indian GT racer Aditya Patel will continue to compete in the Blancpain GT Series Asia for the 2018 season with OD Racing alongside Mitchell Gilbert, driving the Audi R8 LMS GT3 car.

The 29-year-old joined the team and the inaugural Asian GT series last year, finishing second in the overall drivers' standings, as well the Silver Cup - losing the title only by the a single point in the former.

"It’s a pleasure to be back again this year with OD Racing and Mitch," said Patel. "We may have missed out on the title last year but we are sure we have a strong package this year, with the support from WRT, to be able to fight for the title again.

"WRT is considered to be one of the best GT3 teams in the world with an impeccable track record and I’m really looking forward to working with them this year! Once again, I must thank Audi India for their continued support over the years."

The only change this year is the one Patel alluded to. The team will move from racing under the Absolute Racing banner to Team WRT - which makes its debut in Asia full-time after spearheading Audi's European campaigns.

“Mitch and Aditya proved last year that they are one of the strongest driver pairs in Asia and we now have the opportunity to partner with the renowned race team, WRT, a team that Audi Sport have entrusted to run their factory cars in Europe," team boss Cornelius Ee.

"Like us, WRT may not have been around for very long but their impressive successes and solid experience with Audi in the European races is sure to be an advantage for us moving forward," he added as the team gets ready for a challenging season.

The 2018 season kicks-off with the first round at Sepang International Circuit, Malaysia during the April 14-15 weekend, followed by races in Thailand (May 12-13), Japan (Suzuka, June 30 - July 1), Japan (Fuji, July 21-22), China (Shanghai, September 22-23) and China (Ningbo, October 13-14).
