After Two More Films, "Fast and Furious" Will Reach The Finish Line
The plan: a 2-part finale directed by Justin Lin
Dom. Letty. Tej. Roman. Mia. Han. Ramsay. Hobbs. O'Conner. We've seen these characters race for nine Fast and Furious films. We're about to see them race for two more to close out the motorhead saga that defined a generation.
Deadline reports that Universal Pictures is planning to end the franchise with two films, one after another in a 2-part story, and Justin Lin is said to be at the table to discuss how to make these two movies happen. As "Fast 9" is currently in the Cipher arc (featuring Charlize Theron and also stars John Cena), it'd make sense for the last two films to either take this arc further to the end, though I reckon they can still scrunch another arc.
Both F&F10 and F&F11 will probably be the last time we'll see Vin Diesel, Michelle Rodriguez, Tyrese Gibson, Chris “Ludacris” Bridges, Jordana Brewster, Sung Kang, Dwayne Johnson, Jason Statham and Nathalie Emmanuel reprise their roles; even if Vin and The Rock have had a recent falling-out, there may still be room to run together one last time. Also, as per Deadline: Diesel may still produce these flicks through his One Race Films banner and Lin's Perfect Storm studio.
Some of us will certainly miss this series about automotive superheroics on the big screen, and some won't. But with spin-offs and a TV deal, the franchise still has some things to offer.
