AJ Foyt Is 83 Years Old & Still Cheating Death
Some bees learned the hard way you don't mess with this old timer.
AJ Foyt is a legend in motorsports but you already knew this. He won at Indy, Le Mans and Daytona. He might be the toughest bastard to ever put on a fire suit. He survived everything from near suffocation at Riverside to crushing both legs at Road America. He basically told a blood clot to go F itself at Michigan and in 2005 he survived his first bout with Killer Bees.
His second run in with the hyper aggressive Africanized happened only a few days ago. He was at his home in Texas when the attack occurred. "It was scary, I won't lie," Foyt told RACER on Thursday evening while sitting in his race shop in Waller, Texas. "I pushed down a tree with my bulldozer and thought I saw a bunch of honey bees, but they weren't."
Can we just pause for a moment and knowledge the fact that AJ Foyt is 83 years old and still knocking shit down with a freakin bulldozer? That alone is astonishing throw in some very dangerous killer bee action and AJ Foyt is the leading candidate for badass old timer of the year.
"So I threw it in reverse and got away from them. At least I thought I did. I got off the dozer and had about a block to walk to my truck when they came swarming down on me. I started running and made it to my truck and I got the windows down going about 60 mph trying to keep them off my face but they're stinging my eyes and my neck, and I'm glad I had a jacket on."
The bees stung Foyt in the face, eyes and neck but luckily found shelter in his home. "I stuck my face in ice water because it was burning and it felt like about 500 degrees," Foyt explained. "I was lucky because those bees sting you until you quit breathing."
Foyt was taken to the hospital where he was treated for his wounds. Once his condition stabilized he plotted his revenge. "They sent my airplane for me but I told them I wasn't going home until I killed those bees," he said. "We got 15 gallons of diesel fuel and dropped it and set those bastards on fire. I felt a lot better after that."
Moral of the story, it doesn't matter if you are man or beast you do not fuck with AJ Foyt. Unless you like being set on fire. The downside to all of this apart from the obvious health concerns is Foyt will not attend this weekend's Sebring 12 Hours. Foyt was scheduled to be the race's Grand Marshal and inducted into their Hall of Fame.
"I feel bad about that but they've got me on a lot of medication and I don't really feel up to traveling," said Foyt. "It's been a tough couple days and I need to rest."
It is all fun to count the times Foyt has cheated death and told the Grim Reaper to piss off, but this is still a man and we can all join in and wish the toughest s.o.b. in racing a speedy recovery.

Watched him in his last Nascar Race(on TV) and still is a memory etched in my brain mostly due to the Fans reaction to him waving to everyone out the window. Great Racer/Great Man. Praise God he's still living life to the full!
