Alexa will be directly integrated into the Rivian vehicle software
Rivian, the American startup backed by Ford and Amazon among others, has announced the arrival of Amazon's Alexa Voice Assistant on its two future vehicles, the R1T pickup and the R1S SUV. The assistant will be directly integrated into the software, so there will be no need to use a phone or application.
This integration will also allow Alexa to be used in remote locations with poor Internet reception. Owners will also be able to control by voice various features such as air conditioning, windows or even the opening and closing of the bed. Users will be able to access the R1T's bed camera via Echo Show or Fire TV.
Alexa's arrival will obviously not be limited to controlling the vehicle. Alexa's basic functionalities will also be available. These include music playback, navigation, calls, control of connected home devices, etc. The brand's goal is to offer the best experience to its customers wherever they go.
Moreover, the R1T and R1S are not the only vehicles affected by Alexa's arrival. Rivian said that the voice assistant will arrive on the fleet of 100,000 delivery vans ordered by Amazon. These are 100% electric and will begin their service in 2021.
