Alfa Romeo could have been part of the Volkswagen group since 2018

Alfa Romeo under the control of Volkswagen, a good idea?

5w ago

Alfa Romeo is a mythical brand of the Italian car industry and is particularly appreciated and coveted by car enthusiasts but also by other major manufacturers. When it was under the control of the FCA group, the Turin-based carmaker seemed to be struggling to compete with the German premium giants.

This untapped potential had already attracted the attention of the Volkswagen group in 2018. According to information from the British magazine Autocar, the German brand had made several unsuccessful takeover offers to the FCA group for Alfa Romeo. In fact, interest has increased further since 2016, when Ferrari left FCA.

In 2018, the CEO of Volkswagen even met with the then boss of FCA, Mike Manley, to negotiate this possible takeover, proof that the intentions of the German group were already well advanced. Would Alfa Romeo have had a completely different future under the Volkswagen management, with a Golf-based Giulietta and a Cayman-based GTV?
