Nearly lost amid the presentation of the FCA five-year plan this week, was the announcement that Alfa Romeo will resurrect the 8C. For those who don’t keep up with history, the 8C was seen last in 2010 as a V8 powered coupe; the new 8C will however be a two-seat, mid-engined model using a carbon fiber chassis, with hybrid-assisted four-wheel drive.
The horsepower will be around 700.
Expected in 2022, this new 8C will be a hybrid combining a twin-turbo engine (something along the lines of the Giulia Quadrifolgio’s 2.9-liter V6) with a front axle-mounted electric motor.
This new hybrid will do 0-60 in under 3 seconds according to the presentation given last week by Sergio Marchionne.
Also coming is the GTV, another historic name. The “Gran Turismo Veloce” or “Fast Grand Touring,” turned heads with its lines and angular two-door body and was last seen in showrooms in 2004. This new version will be a coupe and it too will be a hybrid. Alfa Romeo says it will have more than 600 horsepower courtesy of the car’s E-Boost system.
The new models are expected to replace the 4C coupe and 4C Spider and make up for those models’ shortcomings which include limited interior and trunk space and a lack of comfort.
