Alice Powell joins Envision Virgin Racing

The W Series front-runner has joined the British Formula E team as its official simulator driver

Alice Powell has been one of the standout drivers of the second season of W Series. She's already achieved multiple race wins and is shaping up to be a proper contender to defending champion Jamie Chadwick. In fact, she's actually the leader in the W Series drivers' championship right now!

It now seems that her amazing form has been rewarded elsewhere, as British Formula E team Envision Virgin Racing has taken her on board as its official simulator driver. Powell has already worked with Envision Virgin Racing before; she took part in the Season 6 Rookie Test in 2020 and was due to take part in another rookie test this year before it was cancelled due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Her new role will see her help with development work on the cars, race preparation and commercial activities with the team.

Powell's previous success hasn't just come from the W Series either. She was the first female driver to win a Formula Renault championship in 2010 (where she finished ahead of 2020 Porsche Carrera Cup GB runner up Josh Webster, among others) and was also the first female driver to score points in the GP3 series in 2012. She also gained 2 podiums and 1 fastest lap in the Jaguar i-Pace eTrophy series last year, which was its final year of being the support race for Formula E.

"I am really happy to be joining the Envision Virgin Racing team," stated Powell. "I have already worked with quite a few of the guys when I did my Rookie Test in 2020 and I am super excited to be part of such a fantastic team. I’ve seen how hard everyone works at the factory and to have this opportunity to help the team, who have a great driver line-up as well in Robin and Nick, is incredible. We have a great car and great drivers, and I am very proud to be able to support the team in the simulator and contribute to the results."

"I am delighted to welcome Alice to the team; we have already seen her performance and what she can deliver during the Rookie Test she did with us and are very pleased to have her onboard," said Envision Virgin Racing Managing Director and CTO Sylvain Filippi. "She brings with her a lot of skill, determination, and some fantastic experience behind the wheel. I have no doubt that she will constitute a very valuable asset for us, and the team is looking forward to working with her."
