All the things that make a regular Toyota Tacoma a TRD Pro

Taking a close look at all the "TRD Pro" bits of the 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro.

The TRD Pro trim is probably one of the best trim levels you can get on a vehicle. Many "performance" trim levels are basically appearance packages, where the TRD Pro does make your Toyota look good, while also adding performance value. I am going to take you through all of the upgrades the TRD Pro trim adds to the 2020 Toyota Tacoma.

TRD-tuned FOX shocks

Perhaps the most bang for your buck with the TRD Pro trim on not only the Tacoma, but the 4Runner, Tundra, and Sequoia is the 2.5 internal bypass shocks. The FOX shocks are not simply an off the shelf set of shocks. TRD did their financing with help from FOX to create the unique ride that can be found in each TRD Pro offering.

Rigid Industries LED fog lights

I just mentioned how the TRD Pro trim adds performance to Toyotas where others lack, well in the world of off roading lights are more important than horsepower. At premerie off road events like the Baja 1000 or King of the Hammers a significant population of race trucks run lights made by Rigid Industries. The 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro comes packed with a set of Rigid Industries LED fog lights in both front corners.

TRD skid plate

The 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro features a unique TRD skid plate that protects your vital engine components from impact. Not only is it completely functional to protect say your oil pan from hitting a rock, but it also looks pretty good with its big TRD branding.

TRD exhaust

The 3.6 liter V6 from much of the 2020 Tacoma line comes equipped under the hood in the TRD Pro version, but don't you want to hear it sing? That is where the TRD exhaust comes in.

TRD wheels

I am a big fan of black wheels and the 2020 Tacoma TRD Pro comes equipped with a matte black set of 16 inch TRD alloy wheels. Keeping the wheel size low lets you increase the aggressive level of rubber you wrap around it.

Retro TOYOTA front grill

Well we could only go on about the performance benefits for so long before we got to looks. One of the most unique looks of the TRD Pro level Tacoma is the TOYOTA front grill in lieu of the normal Toyota badge you get on non-TRD Pro Tacomas.

TRD Pro badging

It should go without saying, but some people really love badges. The Tacoma TRD Pro comes with TRD Pro branded in multiple places on the exterior. You get a big badge on both the passenger and driver doors, a matte black badge on the trunk bed, and facing the front grill even the left headlight says "TRD" while the right one says "Pro".

TRD interior branding

The exterior was not the only thing to get TRD Pro written places. The interior features TRD Pro on the headrests, on the floor mats, and a TRD branded gear shifter.

If you want to get a video look at all of these features, be sure to check out my video below where I walk around the 2020 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro showcasing each "TRD Pro" feature.

  • Definitely my favorite truck by far. I've just always loved the looks of it. It also avoids that incredibly childish Ford vs Chevy vs Dodge ordeal.

  • so basically, shocks and lamps. Anybody knows what those shocks do, exactly?

  • Perhaps Honda will be a little bit better than a Toyota... See, I am a race-car-person. I drove a race car. Toyota is terrible at Le Mans. Why, you may ask. Toyota won after 20 years at Le Mans and almost 2 centuries after establishment! But, Ferrari, on the other hand, won after only 2 yrs of est. I only compare companies by their "racing" skills (Toyota #7 failed at Le Mans, and Toyota is stepping down! Good luck to you, "Toyota-person.").

    • Honda doesn't make a off road truck. I would love a TRD Pro-like Ridgeline, but we don't have one.

  • These things are everywhere here in Colorado, but I can't stop myself calling them the "turd pro". Excellent truck but I'm surprised Toyota hasn't tried to change up the TRD moniker all these years...

    • Idk TRD Pro is generally a new phrase. Everything before was just TRD or TRD Package, TRD Pro is the top of the line one now.

    • Still stands though ;) "Yeah I went and got me one of those Tacos with the turd package!" hahaha I'm a child, sorry.
