Allis Chalmers one-Seventy

How it all started

I love classic tractors. I buy calendars with tractors on them. I have a replica grill of an Oliver tractor hanging on my wall. But my love of these iron antiques started with on small orange tractor, the Allis Chalmers 170.

On our farm in Central Illinois we use our AC 170 for every odd job. It's been on our farm that it almost seems like its part of the farm itself. We change field machinery over 5 or 10 years. But since 1970 this little (by modern standards) tractor has remained on our farm. It really is what made me enjoy farming growing up and want to do it as an adult. It also made me look at classic tractors in a different way. As more of a utilitarian piece of art rather than just an old machine.

  • Hi Guthrie, this is a great shot, I’ve shared to my farm tribe. If that’s not okay, just let me know and I’ll take it down.
