An Introduction

Why am I even here? I don't even know.

Well, for the two of you who might find this tribe, welcome! You may be thinking, "well, this is a waste of my tribe-exploring time, there isn't anything here except a small girl who doesn't know anything about cars". And you would be right. In fact, that is the exact reason I decided to start this tribe.

Wait... what? You don't know ANYTHING about cars? Why are you here?

Truly, my knowledge of the car world is pretty much non-existent, and I am but an ant in the midst of most drivetribers that I have had the pleasure of meeting. I have not been a lifelong petrolhead. In fact, I only actually actually started researching and exploring cars about 3 years ago. Before then the thought of riding around in a machine that kills thousands of people a year frightened me, and the thought of actually driving it was out of the question. Since then I have been able to break out of my shell and slowly begin learning more and more, and meeting people who have supported me and encouraged me in ways I could never have imagined. I am not an engineering student who knows the exact process that an engine goes through in order to maximize power in a car, I don't know the difference between the side window shaping of the Mercedes C-Class and the E-Class, and there are times when I look at a car and the only thing that comes to mind is "wow, that is... a car." What I do know, is that everything that goes into the making of a car requires mastery, and is a form of art in itself. A well-crafted machine oozes inspiration, expression, and beauty. The only difference between this and other arts, is that this one is drivable.

So if you don't know anything about cars... what are you even going to post?

Ah ha! That is where you come in! For the two of you have actually read this far, I have a request. I hope to make this tribe a record of my progress, to ask questions and try to find answers. I hope to make this a place where others can ask silly questions that they've been too afraid to ask before, and to find a safe place where their questions can be answered. I have high hopes that DriveTribe is the perfect place to create this kind of community. In my short time here I have seen nothing but encouragement, enthusiasm, and inclusion in whatever people share. That is a beautiful and rare thing to see on the internet, and I know for anyone who is new in the world of cars, this is the environment that will help them feel comfortable and excited to learn.

Wow, that sounds kind of cool, so what can I do to help?

Ask questions! Answer questions! Whether you have been wondering about something for the longest time but are too afraid to ask, or if you are pretty sure you know EVERYTHING there is to know, this is the place for you! Have discussions, help each other, and most importantly, know that you are safe to express your thoughts and knowledge with others. I will try to encourage certain topics from time to time, but I can't have discussions by myself! If you think you know the mechanic in your area, let us know why so that people near you can hear about them. Just made huge improvements on your own car? Tell us how you did it in case it will help someone else!

I am super excited to start this with everyone, and I will post my own progress as well. I have left the tribe open for others to post as well, so if you've discovered something too, share it! Until then, this is Chloe, wishing you happy exploring!

  • This is a very good idea. I know loads about things with engines and wheels. Or at least I’m good at sounding convincing... Feel free to tag me with questions as I don’t get to interact with DT as much as I’d like.

    • Thanks so much! And yes the whole goal of the tribe is to interact, so feel free to comment. Even if something hasn't been asked yet but you think it would be good info or advice, add it!

  • I really like reading your post because I have the same feeling about the cars as you. I don't know the technical aspects and I don't like the supercars too! I discovered the motoring studying the maritime law and trade at the University. Since I'm interested in the shipping life and the motoring. I had some adventures before having my driving license. It's a long story I could write on your tribe or another one.

  • This is a great idea, as someone who's been following the world of cars since I was 2 according to my parents, I'm always on hand for help but there are things that puzzle me too, like the modern day e class and c class are difficult to tell apart but I know a few things that may help you with that😁 Good luck on your voyage through the world of cars, I'm sure you'll be pleased with the motoring world; yes DT is unique in terms of social media, its much more positive than others which just goes to show that we petrol heads are a good bunch 😊

    • Thanks! Yes my hope is to get people of various car backgrounds as possible (e.g. someone who has multiple years of racing experience but has never ridden a bike in their life), and your presence is greatly appreciated! :)

  • Welcome to Drive Tribe. I am somewhere on the line between beginner and novice when it comes to cars. I have done some of the car quizzes on here and realize this grasshopper has much to learn. I honestly sometimes like not knowing a lot about cars. I can help people understand some of the basics of cars.
