The start of the Carrera Panamericana is always a momentous occasion but this year is bigger than ever. Not only is it the 70th anniversary of the race proclaimed as the most dangerous in the world but, with so many events being cancelled this year, it's miraculous that the race is able to take place at all!

My friend Angelica Fuentes Garcia flies back to her native land every year to take part. This year she is back in the Museo Del Automovil Studebaker Champion, where she is navigating alongside her team mate Gabriel Perez.

Angie and Gabriel got off to a flying start, qualifying 3rd overall. Last year they qualifeid 7th and led the race for part of the week before mechanical gremlins knocked them down the rankings. So a starting positioned of 3rd bodes well for the week ahead! Fingers crossed and wishing them well!

    • The Carrera is huge in Mexico, I think there would have been riots if the 70th anniversary race were cancelled. 29 racers and 15 in the touring class, so numbers are a little down from last year. Still a good mix of nations competing though.
