The action is hotting up in the Ginetta X Project CARS Esports Cup. The Online Qualifiers have concluded and we now know which drivers have made it through to the December Finals.
The Online Qualifiers took place as a time trial event on all three Project CARS platforms; PC, PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. With only the fastest 15 pre-registered drivers on each system progressing through to the Finals, and with car setups fixed to their default values, we were treated to a phenomenally close fight on the leaderboards.
Norwich’s magnificent Snetterton circuit was the venue chosen for the time trial. This superb British track has enjoyed a renaissance in recent years, undergoing a massive refurbishment, but losing none of the character that has made it a firm favourite with UK racers over the years, including Ginetta themselves. The fast, sweeping corners that make up much of the lap are a perfect match for the sheer grip of the Ginetta G55 GT4 that our drivers were hustling around the course in this event.
As in the real-world Ginetta SuperCup series, setups were fixed for this competition, meaning that the drivers could not tweak the car to find extra performance. It’s all about the skill of the person behind the wheel. Of course, a fixed setup is by no means a limitation in the G55 GT4. It’s a well-balanced car right out of the box, allowing the drivers to push hard and explore the edge of grip without holding anything back.
