Another big automotive name is leaving the V8 club
The downsizing, regulation-driven trend that's killing our dreams
The downsizing trend has been going on for a while now and unfortunately there's not much we, as people who simply love cars, can do about it.
It started with the V12, which was the first one to go, and the V10, and now it appears that sadly the V8 isn't exempt either. The point is fuel emissions standards are becoming astoundingly strict and this is prompting carmakers to act. The list of manufacturers that either have or will ditch the V8 is long – and it now includes Hyundai's luxury division Genesis.
Genesis confirmed they will eventually drop their magnificent 5 L "Tau" V8, which is currently being used on the G80 and the G90, when their new G80 goes on sale in September this year.
This was confirmed by Genesis vice president Manfred Fitzgerald who recently said that their old V8 will be replaced by the V6 in the new G80 and he added that the V8 won't be upgraded with any hybrid or turbos either.
"We really have to pay close attention to markets and legislation and hedge our bets” he said. "Don’t expect another evolution of the V8.”
The good news is the G90 recently received a facelift and will keep the 420 hp V8 for a while more. The last hurrah before the quiet, turbocharged years.

I quit buying vehicles with four-cylinder or V6 engines. It has to have a V8 or straight-6 in it. No turbos or OHC either, allowing for less moving parts and simpler maintenance. Small engines with lots of parts doesn’t make any sense.
A straight six is better- not as complicated to work on, sounds better, and if you don’t want turbos(many people prefer natural aspiration) this is a better setup.
A V6 is more compact and has that v shape that allows room for turbo to be...

I suspect the most wonderful cars...
Read moreThis is not a tragedy, if a Hyundai is not powered by a near silent v8 it matters not. Even if this was powered by a man pulling a rope it would make no difference. Now if it was a mustang then you could cry. Until then relax and buy a mercedes.
If ford stopped with the Mustang V8 there would be riots
Really high chance that one is coming. I heard about this pickup truck....
Trump is right, these EPA hard regulations are killing businesses. There is more restrictions with these liberal polices that's forcing electric companies to release have baked products and infrastructure.
There is no EPA regulations on tankers/global shipping, battery mining that produces more cO2 than combustion vehicles.
Im really shocked that there will be no additional hybrid system or turbo. Almost always seen as a necessary addition when downsizing an engine. How do they expect to keep up with everyone else?
