Apparently a Lotus SUV is on the horizon

And it's rumoured to be here by the end of 2020.

Following the SUV trend and joining sports car makes such as Lamborghini and Maserati, British lightweight sports car-maker Lotus is rumoured to be revealing a new model in the near-future, and it's anything but light-weight.

The possibility of a Lotus SUV has been gaining internet attention over the last few years, and it could finally come into fruition after a recent report from a Dutch publisher 'AutoWeek' stated that the marque had plans to reveal their SUV by the end of this year.

Reportedly to be named after a Greek letter and thus sharing a name with a V6 engine made by Hyundai, the upcoming 'Lambda' (as its called) has been under development for around five years now, likely built on Volvo's Scalable Product Architecture (SPA) platform. This currently forms the base for many of Volvo's passenger cars, from the XC60 and XC90 SUV to through to the S60 saloon and Polestar 1 Coupe.

The Lambda will be built using Volvo parts at one of Volvo's Wuhan factories in China, aiming high for the large SUV Coupe category to rival the likes of the Porsche Cayenne Coupe, BMW X6, Mercedes GLE Coupe and Audi Q8.

Expect powertrains to follow a similar specification to Volvo's current line of cars, from four-cylinder and hybrids to a fully-electric version.

Despite being an extremely heavy vehicle, former Lotus CEO Jean-Marc Gales stated at one point that the Lambda will be 'one of the fastest and most agile performing cars in its segment'; but although Volvo's current twincharged straight-four is quite a performer - we hypothesize that to match its rivals in thrill and performance, the car would at least need turbo eight or hybrid six-cylinder power. That said, we don't know the exact details of what Lotus has planned.

  • Front looks like a Jaguar E/F-pace, back looks like a Ferrari GTC4/F12. It’s not light weight and they’ll have to buy bits from other manufacturers like Aston Martin.

What exactly is left that’s Lotus?

This is jumping on board the SUV bandwagon searching for profits which I understand but selling their souls in the process.

    • Oh and by the way, if they take too much from Volvo, isn’t it just a Volvo! May as well save your money and buy a Volvo. I’m a lotus fan but the badge alone isn’t enough just to buy something like this.
