Classic car markets are a wonderful place to whittle away the hours, whether that's finding your next investment, buying a lifelong dream car, or simply seeing what's on the market.

Well, it seems that Porsche are currently 'top dogs' here in the UK, with the 911 taking the title of the 'most valuable' classic car in the UK, according to research conducted by HERO-ERA. With 23,029 models in circulation, HERO-ERA estimates the market to be valued in excess of £900 million - that's a lot of 911s!

Not only that, but the Porsche 911 was also able to out-perform other typical 'classic car' high-end brands and models, seeing off the likes of the Jaguar E-type, and other brands such as Ferrari and Aston Martin despite their impressive back-catalogue of popular classics.

According to the same report, Porsche is the only manufacturer to exceed a £1 billion share of the classic car market: "By total value, the UK's stock of classic Porsches is worth the most. At £1.18 billion (13.5% of the total), Porsche is the only manufacturer to exceed £1 billion. As will be seen, this is largely driven by 23,000 Porsche 911s, worth an estimated £911 million ($1,246 billion)."

  • Odd: I'd have at least assumed the two brands in more demand than 911s in the UK would be Jaguar E-Types, MK2s etc or Aston Martin DB4/5/6s. Guess I was wrong...

  • A slightly weird statement. If all of 23,000 911's were put up for sale at the same time the overall value of those 23,000 would plummet as I suspect supply would comfortably exceed demand. As individual cars the 5 or 6 250 GTO's that reside in the UK (not all are UK owned) are comfortably the most valuable indivdual cars in the UK.

  • Seems like in my neighbourhood the the Air-cooled Porsche market isn’t moving at all right now.
