Apple is still looking for the perfect partner to build a car
In today's episode of 'Apple builds a car'...
In today's episode of 'Apple builds a car', the tech giant that's recently decided it wants to make cars, is reportedly in talks with Magna Steyr - the same company that works with BMW, Toyota and Mercedes-Benz for the Z4, the Supra and the G-Wagen - to put together a team to build the 'iCar'. Or whatever else they're gonna call it.
Apple began searching for the perfect company to work with for their new venture shortly after announcing they were serious about making cars. Hyundai was the first car maker they turned to but the Korean brand reportedly walked away from the potential deal. Apple is a polarizing company, we all know that, so I don't think it is going to be easy for anyone to work with them on a car.
Meanwhile, they've also been holding 'early-stage' discussions with CATL and BYD for their battery tech but the problem is Apple wants to manufacture the batteries for its cars on US soil and that could be a bit of an issue because both CATL and BYD are Chinese companies and, as we all know, diplomatic relations between China and the United States aren't great at the moment.
You may have never heard of CATL (I hadn't), but they're the world's largest battery manufacturer and they also work with Tesla. As you'd expect, all three companies refused to comment on that but Apple remains committed to launching its first EV by 2024. See you next time, for another episode of 'Apple builds a car'.
