Apple normally bring out their new iPhones in September and October is normally reserved for new Mac lines / updates they are planning on releasing. Hurrah! The new iPhones are here, something people get really excited about to see what the next generation of iPhones will look like.

HomePod Mini

This is a radically new HomePod Mini - which just looks brilliant. By the looks of it, there has been some industrial espionage between Apple and Amazon as the new HomePod Mini looks very similar to the new Amazon Echo lineup. It works with everything from Apple (obviously) but in the coming months it will support Amazon Music and Pandora. It has SIRI built in. It works brilliantly with CarPlay and the new HomePod automatically connects with the Home App on iPhones.

Intercom is what you could guess - it allows you to communicate with not only your HomePod, but iPhones, iPads, Apple Watches, AirPods and even CarPlay - meaning everyone is incredibly connected. They come in white and black. And it costs only $99 and will be available on November 3.

Today is the beginning of a new era to iPhone

Tim Cook (CEO)

This is the second iPhone to be released this year - after the SE. The new iPhones support 5G networking capabilities - this is huge. 5G is incredibly fast and allows an even faster experience for downloading and uploading data, it can support about 4GBPS of download speed, which is incredibly fast, in the UK, the average WIFI speed in the UK is a poor 22.37MBPS.

The rumours are true! The design takes inspiration from the new iPad Air and iPad Pro, which is a more square design - it reminds me a lot of the iPhone 4 and 5S, but just a lot bigger. It comes in Black, Pink, (Product) Red, White and Green. The iPhone 12 is a lot slimmer than the 11 and Apple have got rid of the LCD screen - just OLED now - meaning it has the screen of the 11 Pro.

MagSafe is back! remember when your MacBook didn't just have one port, remember when they had magnetic cables that allowed you to make sure your laptop was charging. Well, I do, in fact my laptop still has a MagSafe port. Apple have brought it to iPhone by putting magnets in the back - at the wireless charger. This allows cases to clip on magnetically too.

Apple have announced they are getting rid of the power adapters and wired "EarPods" this is good for the environment - as the boxes are slimmer and lighter and not so much materials are being used. This is another way for them to save money on packaging, and materials as well as shipping costs too. Now all iPhones have a USB Type-C cable included in the box. This starts at $799 - so it costs more than the 11 but has less in the box?

iPhone 12 Mini

iPhone 12 Pro

It has the same design as the iPhone 11 but is better looking and is higher quality than the 11 Pro. The iPhone 12 Pro has increased from 5.8" to 6.1" as well as this, the iPhone 12 Pro has increased from 6.5" to 6.7" - when being almost the same size as the 11 Pro.

For the first time, the iPhone 12 Pro Max has a better camera than the standard 12 Pro, this is the phone for photographers. You can now record in HDR, and can record in Dolby Vision HDR, as well as in 4K at 60FPS.

The new iPhone 12 Pro now includes the LIDAR sensor - which is on the iPad Pro which allows Augmented Reality to appear better on the iPhone. Much like the normal 12, this comes with MagSafe and 5G networking. They cost the same as the old phones and all the phones will be available by November 13th.

  • That’s fast, the event just ended. The 12 is a spaceship compared to my little 6S

    • I had it playing on my iPad when typing up the notes 😂. I made the mistake of getting an 11 Pro at the end of last month - I was told there would be delays on the 12 & 12 Pro but I don't think there will be by the looks of it!

  • These iPhones are huge! (Said by an Android person haha)

But I have more money I'd root for the new Samsung S20 FE or the new Sony Xperia 5 II

  • Wasn't that excited about this but shooting Dolby Vision on the 12 Pro might get a preorder out of me

    • 😂 There’s always one feature that gets us all, Tim!

  • I’ve never gotten why they harp on about it being the phone for photographers. At that price range a photographer can but a whole new body for a DSLR, which is ostensibly a much better camera? It’s a good selling point but kinda stupid... he says knowing he’ll probably buy the one with the best camera he can afford.

    • 😂 I agree. It is good having a brilliant camera on a phone tho - but if I was a photographer, I wouldn’t replace my camera with an iPhone. It’s useful if you need to get a quick snap but not enough to replace a camera with!

    • Same. I'm increasingly trying to move away from my (lovely) Fuji mirrorless setup simply because I'm doing more and more video, and the in-the-field workflow of iPhone and GoPro is just easier and less hassle
