Apple users can now add their driver's licence to the Wallet app
This is going to make people's lives so much easier
Have you ever been out and about and realised you've forgotten your driver's licence or wallet in general? We have all been there, but what Apple has done now is made it much easier to leave your wallet behind.
Before, Apple users could store debit/credit cards in their 'Wallet' app, but now the tech giant has introduced the ability to add your driver's licence to the app too.
Arizona and Georgia will be the first U.S. states to use this new feature, with Connecticut, Iowa, Kentucky, Maryland, Oklahoma, and Utah to follow.
The TSA has also worked with Apple to allow people taking domestic flights to present their photo ID through Apple Wallet instead of their physical ID.
David Pekoske, TSA Administrator said: “This new and innovative mobile driver’s license and state ID initiative with Apple and states around the country will enable a more seamless airport security screening experience for travellers. This initiative marks a major milestone by TSA to provide an additional level of convenience for the traveller by enabling more opportunities for touchless TSA airport security screening.”
It's so easy to upload this too. You simply take a photo of the card and yourself using the Wallet app, then verify it with your state. It's pretty much the same process as adding a bank card – which has always been easy via Apple's Wallet app.
All participating states and the TSA will announce at later dates when support for the mobile driver’s license and ID will be available and we hope more countries will start to adopt this new feature to make our lives easier.
