Are Electric Cars Just As Damaging As Petrol Or Diesel Alternatives ?
We all know that for most cases in the current world electricity is made from coal, oil, gas or nuclear. These fuels power 80% of the world energy needs. For electric cars to work you need electricity, but charging a car up on fossil fuels is still bad. With petrol and diesel cars, they produce green house gases such as methane, carbon dioxide and Water. The only real advantage in current time to electric cars is that they don’t pollute whilst running. The environmental cost of making the electric car is the same as a petrol or diesel. But if more people start to use electric cars this puts more pressure onto power plants. They need to produce more electricity and Therefore they produce more gases and pollutants. So electric cars really have the same pollution as petrol or diesel.
So why should we still move to electric?
Unlike petrol and diesel electric cars can be run sustainably. Through renewable resources such as hydro and wind. This means the only pollution is in the making.
Electric cars will only work if there is more than 50% of them on the road and more than 50% of the electricity used is made from renewable. Otherwise hybrid is the answer!
