Arguments at the Algarve: Predictions for the Portuguese Grand Prix
Thiemo Vs Kiran: Round II
It's that time again for two of your favourite Drive Tribers to go head to head with one another in predicting some of the massive talking points of the upcoming Portuguese Grand Prix, set to take place this weekend. If you missed our last big throw down, feel free to check it out below.(Kiran would very much like to point out that I correctly predicted the final podium).
So Kiran and I have put our heads together once again and come up with what we think will happen come race weekend.
WHO'S GOING TO BE ON POLE POSITION AHEAD OF THE RACE?
Verstappen will take pole. Red Bull have developed their (well one of their) cars really well and have come close to Mercedes, who have stopped their 2020 development. We saw that Max was really close last time out, and I think he will take a shock pole this Saturday.
I've decided to say Hamilton again because whilst I do think Verstappen and Bottas will put up a good fight for pole, Lewis has a way of finding that extra bit of speed from nowhere. The track is fast flowing and that last corner coming out on the straight will be where I think he pips everyone else. Not by much - but just enough.
WHO'S MAKING IT ONTO THE PODIUM THIS WEEKEND?
Verstappen will go on to win, Perez will come second and Bottas in third after Hamilton gets an engine problem.
There's a bit of pressure on me after predicting the last podium correctly! I think after a close qualifying, Verstappen and Hamilton will battle a lot but Max will just get the upper hand this time and take the win, with Hamilton not far behind in second. Then, given how solid a driver he is, the nature of the track and this year's car, I'm going to say Perez makes in onto the podium for third.
WHICH DRIVER WILL GET THE FASTEST LAP?
Bottas - he won't be able to catch Perez but will have a big enough gap to fifth for a late pit stop and go for fastest lap.
BOLD PREDICTION FOR THE WEEKEND:
Both Alfas will make it into Q2 on Saturday.
K-Mag will finally get some good luck thrown his way and will finish the race inside the top ten and/or finish ahead of Vettel in the race.
