ARRC: Rajiv Sethu scores points for Honda India in Race 2 at Buriram
The Indian could have had a much better result but he learnt quite a lot.
The Idemitsu Honda Racing India riders had a mixed outing in Round 3 of FIM Asia Road Racing Championship at Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand, in the Asia Production Cup 250cc category.
Rajiv Sethu finished 14th, 16th and 14th respectively abode his #80 Honda CBR RR, whereas teammate Senthil Chandrasekaran was 20th, 19th and 20th abode his #18 Honda in his first outing at the circuit.
It was a dream qualifying for Sethu then with him finishing inside the Top 10 in seventh, only 0.768s from the pole-sitter's time as Chandrasekaran ended up 20th. The Race 1 on Saturday though didn't start off well for Sethu as he bogged down the order.
He was at the tow end of the Top 20 but made a remarkable recovery in a superb show to be 10th already on the final lap. However, luck eroded him then as a massive high-side at Turn 3 threw him off the bike. He did manage to gather himself up and rode again.
But he only managed to cross the line in 22nd with teammate Chandrasekaran having a tough outing in 18th. The Race 2 on Sunday was looking good for Sethu as he battled with the Top 5 riders at one point. At the front, Muklada Sarapuech took the win.
But a crash ahead caught him by surprise as he dropped to 10th. Even though the intent was to push to move up the order but he lost couple more places to Rafid Topan Sucipto and Md Muzakkir Mohamed to eventually end up in 12th.
Chandrasekaran, meanwhile, had his own battles but all outside the points position. He had a gravel moment when he and Shahrol Syazras Shahrol Yuzy touched while battling. It did affect his momentum as he finished 20th eventually. At the front, Tatchakorn Buasri took the win.
It could have been more points for Sethu in Thailand where he looked to be among the top runners but he only had four to take his tally to 22 as he sits 14th in the standings with Chandrasekaran in 21st with two. Honda India, meanwhile, is seventh with 22.
The Indian nearly had a double Top 6 finishes but for bad luck in the second race.
The Indian got his first outright podium in EuroNASCAR in Race 1.
It could still be a double Top 5 finish pending the outcome of the appeal.
