ARRC: Sethu ends 2019 in points for Honda as TVS debuts at Buriram
There were two Indian manufacturers and four riders from the country.
The Idemitsu Honda Racing India riders showed good pace in Round 7 of the FIM Asia Road Racing Championship (ARRC) at Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand, in the Asia Production Cup 250cc category.
Honda's Rajiv Sethu and Senthil Chandrasekaran in the #80 and #18 CBR 250cc were joined in by two more Indians as wildcard entrants with Jagan Kumar (#30) and KY Ahmed (#23) aboard the TVS Apache RR310 machine with Hikari Okubo (#73) as their third teammate.
Sethu finished 13th, 12th and 19th in the three practice sessions, while Chandrasekaran was 20th in FP1 and 21st in the other two. Over at 31 Racing, Okubo ended up 22nd in all three, with Ahmed 23rd in first two and 28th in FP3 while Kumar was 25th in FP1 and 24th in other two.
In Qualifying, Sethu was 16th as Okubo managed to beat Chandrasekaran in 21st, while Kumar was 26th and Ahmed 28th. The Race 1 had Sethu amid a big fight for 11th towards the end of the race as he ended up 14th, only 0.476s behind 11th placed rider.
He scored points, nevertheless, as Chandrasekaran crashed in the opening lap, while Okubo finished 21st with Ahmed beating Kumar in 23rd by a close margin. The Race 2 had Okubo finish 15th to score a point after penalties to multiple riders for track limits.
It included both the Honda riders with Chandrasekaran finishing 16th and Sethu in 18th despite both finishing in points essentially. At the back, Ahmed once again had an upperhand on Kumar with the former finishing just ahead of the latter in 20th.
The 2019 ARRC season ended with Sethu in 17th in the riders' standings with 35 points, while Chandrasekaran was 30th with just the two to his name. With just the one point, Okubo found himself 32nd. Over in the teams' standings, Honda India was ninth with 35 points.
