ARRC: Sethu secures Top 10 result for Honda India in Australia
The Indian team had a good outing at one side of the garage.
The Idemitsu Honda Racing India riders had a good outing in Round 2 of FIM Asia Road Racing Championship at Bend Motorsport Park in Australia in the Asia Production Cup 250cc. Rajiv Sethu finished eighth, 14th and 17th respectively abode his #80 Honda CBR RR.
His rookie teammate Senthil Chandrasekaran was 20th, 18th and 21st to complete the three practice sessions. It was a good show in qualifying with Sethu ending up 12th and Chandrasekaran in 17th on a difficult circuit.
The Race 1 on Saturday saw Sethu make a solid start to be as high as sixth at one stage but the Chennai-born rider faced a handle bar issue which prevented him from fighting too hard. He was battling with Irfan Ardiansyah, Md Muzakkir Mohamed and Nazirul Izzat Md Bahauddin.
But eventually the trio passed as Sethu had to settle for 10th - which is his ARRC career's best while also the first time for an Indian in the Top 10 in APC 250cc class. Meanwhile, Chandrasekaran did not have a great start as he plummeted to bottom.
He then slowly started to claw his way but could only manage 17th in the end, about six seconds away from a points finish. At the front, it was Kawaski's Andy Muhammad Fadly who took the win from teammate Aiki Iyoshi with Honda's Muklada Sarapuech in third.
Meanwhile, the Race 2 on Sunday did not start well again for Chandrasekaran. This time, the rookie crashed out in the opening lap itself. The senior pro Sethu though was on it with the Chennai-born racer scoring more points finishing 12th.
At the front, Kawaski's Iyoshi won from Honda's Sarapuech and Tatchakorn Buasri. The good points haul put Sethu in 13th with 18 to his name with Chandrasekara sits 21st with two. The Indian Honda outfit sits sixth in the teams' standings with a total of 18 points as well.
There were three Indian riders competing in Round 1 of ARRC's 2019 season.
