art of rally - beautiful simplicity

'A love letter to the golden age of rally'. OK, but what's the game like? Here's the answer...

Art of Rally (stylised as art of rally) is a simplistic 3D racing game developed by funselektor labs, the creator of Absolute Drift. The game is available for PC, Xbox, Playstation and Nintendo Switch. It starts you off by asking for your country and blood type. A bit odd, granted, but it doesnt matter what you pick.

Progression

The menu is really quite simple, with only a handful of places to go. Nothing lairy, and thats quite nice. The place you'll want to go is Career, the first option. This will lead you to a set of 'Groups' with only Group 2 available.

The way you move on in the game is by completing Stages, which are part of Rallies, part of Years, part of Groups. Relatively straightforward, as all you need to do is stay on the road and get to the finish to complete a stage. You can't lose, either, as you still get rewarded a car for completing a year, although you do get bonus rewards if you have all of your restarts left, or if you get first place.

Freeroam

This gamemode allows you to choose any unlocked car and go to any of the maps available to explore - and get some good pictures, too!

You may encounter collectibles when in Freeroam. These may be floating letters, cassettes or a camera. The Letters spell out RALLY, and if you get all of them in one map, you unlock the next one (e.g. if you get all the Letters in Korkatti Lakes, you unlock San Pietro Island). The Cassettes, once you have all of them from one map, will give you an extra track to listen to in game. Sorry, I forgot to mention - this game has some bangin' tunes, as well as some very loud engine sounds. The Camera icons are for Photo Spots, where you get to see a nice picture of your car of choice, alongside a breathtaking background.

You may also find a camouflaged van. This is funselektor's van, and - gonna be honest - I don't know what it does. As far as I'm aware, it is just a collectible, and you don't get anything from it.

Final Notes

There's not much else to say, other than to get out there, kick the tail out in the dirt, set some records and have a great time playing this truly amazing game.
