Aston Martin aims to make skies beautiful with the ACH130 Aston Martin Edition
Beauty seems to hold paramount importance for Aston Martin. Their cars exhibit that, quite evidently. And this thirst to make gorgeous looking products haven’t restricted them to just cars. We’ve already seen them venture into some ludicrous projects like the Cygnet hatchback or the One-77 cycle - both didn’t turn out that well. But then their speedboat campaign turned out impressively elegant and now, they plan to replicate the same, but in the skies.
A collaboration announced in December last year has finally yielded results as Aston Martin and Airbus Corporate Helicopters unveiled the ACH130 Aston Martin Edition today. The idea behind this collaborative effort was to marry the advanced technology skillset of Airbus with the detail-centric, beauty-obsessed creativity of Aston Martin.
The creative team of Aston Martin worked with Airbus’ aeronautical engineers for over a year together, to come up with a range of four external liveries and complementary interiors for the chopper. One of them includes a Stirling Green-themed external paint job featuring a painted gradient which fades down into Jet Black at the chopper’s underbelly. If greenery is something you leave for the trees, prospective buyers can choose amongst the other Aston Martin paint colours including Xenon Grey, Arizona or Ultramarine Black.
Step inside, and the cabin resonates of the DB11. Signature Aston Martin elements like the iconic Aston Martin wings can be found embossed on the headrests along with other sections of the cabin. If a corner has no such embossments, its because that section has been splashed with leather. More specifically, Pure Black ultra-suede with a palette of selectable leathers comprising of Oxford Tan, Pure Black, Cormorant and Ivory.
Detailing at the rear of the front seats of this helicopter carries the same brogue detailing down the centre of the seat, as seen in the DB11. Further similarities extend to the extensive use of leather all throughout the doors, to make up as comfortable touchpoints for the passengers.
Topping it off is a special plaque, residing on the instrument panel. This can be customised to display the partnership logos, the edition number and the owner’s name, as requested by the customer.
Speaking on the unveiling, Aston Martin Vice President and Chief Creative Officer, Marek Reichman, said: “This first application of our design practices to a helicopter posed a number of interesting challenges but we have enjoyed working through them. Beauty is of vital importance to Aston Martin and to our customers and we think the ACH130 Aston Martin Edition is an inherently beautiful machine. It provided a wonderful canvas for our team to work on so we now look forward to seeing everybody’s reaction.”
The executives at Airbus seemed overwhelmed with the collaboration. Frédéric Lemos, Head of Airbus Corporate Helicopters, further substantiated the above by commenting, “The ACH130 Aston Martin Edition is optimally positioned in the market for hands-on owners who draw satisfaction from personally piloting their aircraft and it generates strong brand-loyalty. In the same way Aston Martin’s products are cars for drivers who relish being at the wheel and they inspire a comparable attachment to the brand. So they are the perfect partner for us in developing this superb new ACH130 Aston Martin Edition”.
The aviation-specialist company is taking orders for this special-edition chopper on request. Deliveries for the same are said to commence from Q1 of 2020.
