Aston Martin boss hints at F1 entry - here's what it could look like
Aston CEO Andy Palmer says the company is open to F1 - if costs can be kept down
Aston Martin boss Andy Palmer says the company is open to joining F1 - if the sports new owners can bring in cost control to the sport.
The luxury car maker is currently a sponsor of Red Bull Racing, but Palmer says a proper Aston F1 team is something they are considering.
"We sit on the periphery of F1, with the Valkyrie, and with Red Bull," Palmer told Autosport.
"There's always that question, would you want to enter as a team?
"Our major competitor is Ferrari, so in that sense there's a rationale in being involved in some way.
"But for a company that's only just moved to making a profit we don't have the 350-400 million a year that you have to spend on F1.
"If - and it really is the big if - there is a cap put on the number of people or the amount of money that you can spend on developing a new engine, and it's at a reasonable level, we have a good reason to study it."
Palmer recently attended a meeting of the FIA's F1 engine working group, and says the next few months will determine whether they push ahead with an F1 programme - and even then it is extremely unlikely that the firm would enter the sport until 2021.
"Hopefully it will be clearer in September, and that will allow us to make a proper decision."
What would Aston Martin in F1 look like?
If you can't wait until 2021 to see what an Aston Martin F1 car would look like - then we have a solution.
Our tame racing car designer Sean Bull has already worked up a fantastic-looking Aston F1 racer. What do you think?

very happy with the designs for this concept! hope you all like it! 77 is used as the closest thing i could do to 007 btw ;)
This would be the best looking car on the grid!
77 is already used by Bottas in F1 ...Unless they already have their first driver
Really think that has nailed these designs - as usual!
ngl I think that it would be great if Aston Martin entered f1
Don't forget the super gas ass fucking halo!!!!
Looks killer and I would love to see them on the grid, but I still don't know how I feel about capping engine development, and I don't think I like the idea of Aston Martin entering only if that cap happens.
