Aston Martin confirms new hybrid hypercar, codenamed 003
It follows the Valkyrie and Valkyrie AMR Pro.
Following the Valkyrie and the Valkyrie AMR Pro, Aston Martin has announced a third mid-engined hypercar, currently codenamed the 003. (The previous two had been codenamed 001 and 002 respectively.)
The only image Aston Martin have released of the 003 is this drawing.
Aston Martin claims that the 003 will be designed to make the best use of the very latest technologies and developments. It will have a lightweight structure and a turbocharged petrol engine combined with an electric motor. Its aerodynamics and downforce are already being touted by Aston Martin as "revolutionary".
The 003 will be road legal but will be designed very much with track performance in mind. It will reportedly have some basic practical aspects, such as luggage space, and will be available in both left- and right-hand-drive. 500 models are expected to be made, going on sale in late 2021.
The full specifications for the Valkyrie, otherwise known as the 001, were released over 18 months ago.
Here's what Aston Martin boss Andy Palmer had to say about the 003:
“It was always the intention for the Aston Martin Valkyrie to be a once-in-a lifetime project, however, it was also vital to us that Valkyrie would create a legacy: a direct descendent that would also set new standards within its own area of the hypercar market, creating a bloodline of highly specialised, limited production machines that can exist in parallel with Aston Martin’s series production models. I’m thrilled to announce that this car is the Project ‘003’, and our next step into a dynamic and exacting arena.”
Details are, of course, scarce at this stage, but we have been given enough to build up a great deal of excitement.
