First things first, what is racing pride?

Well, the name includes two words; racing and pride... So obviously it has something to do with that, it's a charity organization positively promoting LGBTQ+ inclusivity within the motorsport industry. To reach this they provide opportunities for both straight allies and LGBTQ+ members to become visible, encourage LGBTQ+ people to participate in racing in the first place, and highlight their achievements. Racing Pride works with ambassadors, one of these ambassadors is someone we probably all know:

Abbie Eaton and founder Richard Morris

"I want to help highlight the positivity around the message of inclusion and acceptance... it is great to see Aston Martin cognizant formula one team giving this issue support - there is a long road ahead, but I'm really pleased we can play a positive role."

Sebastian Vettel

Why is this so amazing?

Let's answer this question with a question, how many lgbtq+ racing drivers do you know? Not much probably. Why is this, it's not because there aren't any lgbtq+ racing drivers, they just don't dare to come out or start racing in the first place. And that's where racing pride kicks in, they want to raise awareness among the community, to let lgbtq+ drivers know that they'll be accepted by their team and fans. Coming out isn't that easy, especially if you have no idea how for instance your team members will react if they don't talk about it. On average, most people now find out their identity at 17-20, without any knowledge of the acceptance within this industry it can be really hard to choose a career as a racer or in a race team. Knowing they're supportive will make a huge difference. It's not only racers, team managers, mechanics but also fans will be encouraged to attend races and be a part of it. But also -and not unimportant- it has a teaching role, motor-racing reaches a huge amount of people. When they show they care about inclusivity it will translate into more supportive attitudes among participants and fans outside the sport.

Scientific research revealed that the more people see/hear from the LGBTQ+ community, the more normal they'll experience it. Resulting in less homophobic actions and fewer mental problems among the community.

All these things taking into account, it's amazing that an F1 team is partnering up with racing pride, Aston Martin actually is the first racing team operating in a world championship to raise its voice. Which doubled my love for them...

    • The difficult thing is that there aren't a lot of role models, especially in the higher classes

You just have no clue whatsoever how they'll react
