Audi (and Porsche) could soon be joining F1!

Why? Why are you giving me hope?

About a minute after Aston Martin announced they would return to Formula 1, rumours began to circulate that both Audi and Porsche might follow Aston's lead and join F1 in 2025. As a reminder, both brands are currently invested in Formula E but Audi confirmed they'll leave after the 2020/2021. As things stand, Mercedes is the only brand that competes both in Formula E and Formula 1.

According to RacingNews365, Audi and Porsche CEOs recently flew to Austria to discuss the future of F1 power unit regulations, along with former FIA Safety Director Adam Baker, who was recently hired by VW to be Head of Motorsport Strategies for the group and *not* for the brand as VW confirmed they will personally quit all forms of motorsports.

If I were a betting man, my money would be on Audi as Baker is reportedly evaluating Audi's return to F1 specifically, initially as an engine supplier.

Audi is also making a comeback to Le Mans again for the 2023 season and it would be a huge deal for the brand to be competing in Le Mans and F1 at the same time.

I truly hope the rumours are true because I'd really, really like to see both brands on the starting grid.

Would you like to see these brands in Formula 1?

  • I don't think it's necessary, both brands are doing well in sports car segment right now, if they perform badly in F1, it will really hurt the brand.
